American Cancer Society/Hope Lodge NY
Miracle on 32nd Street
Hope Lodges offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients during treatment, as well as for their caregivers. The ability to stay at Hope Lodge allows patients the chance to receive treatment in a community or city that otherwise would have been unaffordable. Currently, there are more than 30 Hope Lodge locations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The Jerome L. Greene Family Center, Hope Lodge, is located on West 32nd Street in NYC and has 60 guest rooms, as well as communal spaces. It is an oasis for cancer patients, a home-away-from-home as they battle the illness.
The Family Center was opened in November 2007 with a grant from the Foundation. At the time it was the largest non-corporate donation in American Cancer Society history. Since its opening, the Jerome L. Greene Family Center, Hope Lodge has provided accommodations and support to more than 16,000, all completely free of charge. But even more valuable is the supportive community it provides for people when they need it most.
