Exceptional Music Education for Any Age

“The lessons (I’ve learned at Third Street) have made me a better student academically, a better friend, a better sister, and a happier person. I could not imagine my life without cello, and I could not imagine my life without Third Street.”
— Orion Doscher, recipient of The New York Community Trust Harris Scholarship at Third Street

Since 1894, Third Street Music School has provided New Yorkers from pre-school to senior citizens with exceptional training in music and dance. The oldest community music school in the country, Third Street provides everything from group instruction to individual classes in a friendly space on East 11th Street. Ensemble playing is at the heart of the Third Street experience and offers something for students of all ages with bands, orchestras, choirs, dance ensembles, chamber groups, jazz combos and rock bands. Children begin classes as toddlers, and many continue through high school. Well known performers “moonlight” at Third Street, where they can teach eager students in a flexible format. At age 120, Third Street still rocks and feels more like a happy family than a school. We are proud to support Third Street Music School Settlement and related programs like Education Through Music, and Harmony Program.
